“However, we argue that ...”: The Construction of Authorial Identities in English Research Articles

چکیده

This research investigates how professional authors construct their authorial identities in English articles (RAs). Sixty were selected from three disciplines, biology, linguistics, and medicine, published by native non-native reputable international journals. First-person references the analyzed qualitatively quantitatively with help of corpus linguistic methods to examine they used express, density, cross-cultural cross-disciplinary variation. The findings showed that frequently employed RAs. results striking similarities density express RAs both groups. However, there was a significant difference these groups across different hard sciences employing significantly more frequent than soft sciences. suggest while publication at highest level does not seem affect construction identities, disciplinary practices identity construction. It is argued may be an essential feature written academic interaction level. They allow create serving as humble servants seek cooperation emphasize solidarity communities knowledge originators stress personal contribution respective disciplines.
